Protect small electronics and other essentials with cases you can whip up in minutes. Wrap an item such as a camera or a pair of glasses in felt. Measure and add 1 inch to the width and 3/4 inch to the length. Trace the shape using a ruler and a disappearing-ink pen, then cut it out with scalloping scissors. Topstitch along three sides with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. To make an MP3 player case, use the template.

For the MP3 player one with the flap, a snap, button or velcro could be added to hold the flap closed. Even a band of elastic, sewn into the hem on both sides, to hold the flap down. All depends on what youve got laying around.
Embroidery floss would work fine to secure the edges. Other things that would work are 'Fray Check' or ribbons used to sew the hem. I'm pretty sure even Elmer's glue would work, just use the non washable stuff if you intend to wash it. I love the old sweater idea, and the earbud storage. Ultra suede too.
I learned the protective quality of felt bags years ago when I was a demonstrator for Princess House. Now I make felt bags to store all of my fragile items. I use red and green felt for Christmas, pink for Victorian items. Iron tape and permanent makers are great to identify bags when it comes time to put them away.
I don't have a sewing machine do you think I can do it with embroidery floss and get the same results ?
Last year, I made a case for my Ipod out of felt that I made from a wool sweater I threw in to the washer and it's held up just fine. No lint and it's held its shape.

I made this project back in October for my ipod touch, using felt . The felt has held up just fine--no lint or scratching problems. Next time, I plan to add a front pocket for earbud storage.
Ultrasuede sounds like a great idea too. Where can you find such small yardage though?
These contributors are right--the felt material is not a good choice for the finished products, although it's a very easy fabric to work with. These cute little cases would simply not be able to hold their looks up very long in a pocket or a purse. Felt also would tend to lose its shape over time. Perhaps the designer of these could offer alternative fabrics for those who are rougher on their accessories.
This is exactly what I need to make. Except, I will add embellishments such as beads and sewn on ribbon.
If you're concerned about lint, try ultrasuede or a quilted cotton.
Wouldn't the felt leave a lot of lint?
