The smooth, flat slabs normally used as stepping stones last for years under any weather conditions -- a quality that makes them ideal as outdoor tabletops. The stones (actually made of concrete) can be found in a variety of shapes and colors at most home-supply stores and garden centers. To make a pedestal table, choose a heavy terra-cotta urn for the base and a paving stone for the top. Place the urn on level ground, right side up or upside down, and then top it with the stone. The weight of the stone will hold the table in place, season after season.

What does the stone weigh and what kind of damage will it do to your toes when a kid runs into it and knocks it over? Or worse, knocks it over onto another kid? This doesn't look very stable to me - especially placed on grass!
Unless, of course, the children at your house are different from the ones I know!!
I already have a work in progress making a stepping stone table for a old milk can table on my front porch. I am mosaic our name initial using old tile and plates and colored glass. cant wait to finish.
