Personalized Votives

Martha Stewart Living, August 2005

Your guests will love seeing their names in lights. These glowing place cards are votive holders wrapped in paper, inscribed on opposite sides. This way, others can read the names from across the table -- helpful if people are meeting for the first time. Cut a piece of parchment to fit around a votive holder. With a ruler and pencil, mark two guides for the names, and then write them on with a felt-tip pen. Erase pencil marks. Wrap paper around votive, and secure with double-sided tape.

I did this idea for my brother's wedding. Only I did not put names on them and I made the parchment paper about a 1/2inch taller than the voltive holder. I then used decorative siccors and cut the top just a little. I used ribbon the colors of the wedding and tied bows. We placed several of these on the wedding party table and on the family tables. It was so soft and elegant looking. They are beautiful lineing your walk ways also.

Oh instead of parchment paper try vellum paper ... it's paper they use for drafting. It's also see through. Try that first before the ribbon.

Maybe attach the paper to a webbed wire ribbon that way you can make a bow on the candle, it will still be see through and it will stay in place. You can find the ribbon in craft stores.

Double sided tape did not work for me... any suggestions?
