Evergreen Bobeches

Here's a much less formal holiday version of bobeches, those little glass collars meant to catch dripping candle wax. To make them, form a circle of 18-gauge wire just larger than the candle you intend to use. Choose evergreen leaves, bay-laurel leaves, or boxwood or juniper branch tips of relatively even scale and size. You'll need 12 to 18 inches of 22-gauge floral wire per bobeche to attach branch tips to each wire circle. Begin by attaching one leaf or tip to the wire circle by wrapping it together with floral wire. Without cutting the floral wire, add another evergreen piece overlapping the first, and wrap with wire to secure. Repeat, completely covering the circle. Cut the floral wire, and twist it to secure. Your best damask tablecloth is now safe.

Finally a use for the enormous juniper the former owners planted in our backyard! I hate the tree, but these "candle collars" are adorable!
