Make several pillowcases using various hues and designs, and swap them whenever you want a quick change of color scheme. The covers are a breeze to make and care for.
Materials
- One 20-inch cloth napkin
- 12- or 14-inch square pillow
- Sewing kit
- Button
- Cord
Steps
-
Step 1 of 3
Lay a 20-inch square cloth napkin face down, positioning it to resemble a diamond. Center a 12- or 14-inch square pillow form on napkin.
-
Step 2 of 3
Fold in 2 side points of napkin to middle, then fold up bottom point. Hand-stitch through all 3 pieces of fabric along upside-down V, about 2 inches down on each side. Stitch a button to bottom flap near point.
-
Step 3 of 3
Fold down top flap; sew a loop of cord to underside of fabric as a button holder, ensuring it fits snugly around button when closed.
These are adorable! And I am super excited about making these since I am a beginner when it comes to sewing. Can't wait to get started and since its raining pretty bad, I think I'll start now!
love the idea. I see all sorts of odd napkins at 2nd stores. what a great idea for gifts for all occasions.
I love this idea i can use the pillow to hide my diary finally!
This is a great idea
This idea can also be combined with the Denim Pillows idea. Use the cloth from old denim jeans or shirts to create a napkin folded style pillow and use the jeans/shirt button on it. Would be great for girls/teenager's room :)
any idea what size napkin should be used for the typical 16" square pillow??
These are so easy! I made them in no time. Here is my blog post about the ones I made with pictures. http://thriftyfindsandredesigns.blogspot.com/2011/02/napkin-folded-pillo...
So cute!!! I also saw this today, sock vases! http://www.fourgreensteps.com/community/blogs/health-wellness-fashion/so...
i make many pillowcases by this way..my guests are so surprized..its so easy..
I wonder if there are pillow forms that are waterproof. My guess is that these wouldn't hold up well to getting wet. I'd have to run outside everytime it threatened to rain. Hmm
I was at a thrift shop yesterday with tons of napkins! I thought pillows but was unsure of size, how tos. Thanks so much for the info. Will go back next week and buy a bunch to try out. Would make a great housewarming gift too if you knew colors they like. =)
