Planting Guides

Martha Stewart Living, March 2003

Using a gauge ensures that seeds are sown at the right depth and that seedlings are evenly spaced. For a seed-depth guide, slide a rubber O ring onto a dowel to the desired depth; use it as a dibber to make a hole for the seed. For a planting measure, mark the handle of a soil rake every 6 inches with a permanent marker.
