All-Natural Mists

Martha Stewart Living, August 2009

A refreshing spritz of fragrant water is a great way to keep cool in summer. To create sprays, simply fill mist bottles with water and a few strips of julienned cucumber or sprigs of lavender and mint. Label bottles (labels from chroniclebooks.com), and set them on a tray at your next backyard barbecue.

Bonus: Cucumber is known for its hydrating properties, and lavender and mint are reputed insect repellents.

I love a personal mister! They're great for any outdoor activity. Add some cheap handfans and it's wonderful, or at least bearable.

Yes, spray it on your face. Or arms. Or legs. Anywhere. A fine mist of water will not make you dripping wet, and in the summer heat it will disappear quickly. The fragrance will indeed help keep bugs at bay, and the cool mist and essential oils are quite refreshing. Just make sure you use real essential oils; fragrance oils are not good for you at all.

So what? Do you spray this in your face? Wouldn't it sting? Don't people wonder why your face is wet? I guess I must be stupid, or this just isn't very clear.....
