Trimming a Lampshade

  • Paper or cloth lampshade
  • Scissors
  • Ironing board
  • Hot glue gun/fabric glue

  1. Step 1

Start with a plain paper or cloth shade. To cut fabric on the bias, fold in half diagonally. For a finished 1/2-inch-wide strip, cut fabric strip along the diagonal, 1 1/4 inches wide and 1 inch longer than the circumference of the shade.

  2. Step 2

To make bias tape, place strip facedown on ironing board. Make a narrow fold along one long edge; iron flat. Fold and iron other edge so both edges just barely overlap.

  3. Step 3

Use dabs of hot glue or fabric glue to tack bias tape to top of shade; fold raw end under where it overlaps the other end before gluing. Repeat for bottom edge.

So crisp and complete. Maybe get the coordinating solid color of fabric and hot glue the blue around the candlestick part to give a change of pace. Better, use velcro and you can have both looks. Smile.
