  3. Puff Pastry with Berry Filling

    Make a berry filling. Cut out 2 circles of puff pastry (any size); freeze for 15 minutes. Cut slits across surface of 1 piece. Spread berry filling onto remaining dough, leaving 1/2-inch border. 

    Place slit dough on top of filling; adhere to bottom piece of dough with beaten egg. Brush top with egg, and sprinkle with sanding sugar. Transfer to a rimmed baking sheet, and freeze for 15 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees until golden, about 15 minutes.

  4. Pumpkin-Pie Spice Blend

    Give drinks, dessert, and breakfast a seasonal spin with this classic spice blend. Mix it yourself or use a store-bought version. To make spiced whipped cream for topping hot coffee, Irish coffee, pie, or cake, add 2 teaspoons of the mix to 1/2 cup heavy cream before whipping. The sweetened spice mix is good sprinkled on buttered toast or French toast.

    Making Your Own
    Even if you don't have pumpkin-pie spice in your pantry, you may well have everything that goes into it. Stir together 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, 2 teaspoons ground ginger, and 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg. Add 2 tablespoons sugar for a sweetened version.

  5. Crisped Prosciutto

    Prosciutto is a delightfully crisp accent for soups, pastas, and salads. Arrange the prosciutto slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. For the crunchiest texture, allow the prosciutto to cool before serving.
