Leftovers are the bane of the sewing room as well as the kitchen. But the same creativity that inspired cassoulet can save odd lengths of fabric from ragbag ignominy. One idea: Use strips of cloth or lace to trim the opening of a cotton pillowcase. A monogrammed handkerchief from a flea market can be folded diagonally and machine-stitched to a pillowcase, creating a wonderful gift for someone with the right initial.

Would love to find the instructions for the trimmed pillow cases!!!!!
Where can I find the instructions? I have searched this page over and over . . .

I have several old hankies that are over 50 years....My grandmother crochet edgings on each one. Would like to make a heirloom memory for each of my daughters and sisters. Does anyone have any suggestions . Dont want to hide the edgings...grammafaye39@i-star.com
If you want to sew your own pillowcase, consider buying an extra flat sheet to match your own set. You can get poly-cotton and 100% cotton at fabric stores, but sheets often have a higher thread count. Measure existing pillowcases for the finished measurements, add 1/2' to sides and one end, and 6-8" for a deep doubled hem. Adjust for contrasting fabric borders, extra fluffy pillows, etc.
what is the best material to use for a pillowcase. One that you can snuggle, yet you do not have to iron.
Great Idea, everyone has "scraps"--especially us quilters.
