These mittens won't warm chilled hands, but they will generate good cheer when clipped to gift tags. Cut a mitten shape from cardboard, and trace it onto a piece of felt. Cut along the lines, and glue the felt to the cardboard with clear-drying white craft glue. Adorn the felt side of the mitten with bits of felt in complementary colors -- dots made with a hole punch, a monogram, felt trim edged with decorative shears, or a Christmas tree cut out with a decorative craft punch. Glue a standard wooden clothespin to cardboard, then glue a magnet to the back of the clothespin. After the gifts have been opened, use your mittens to display greeting cards on the refrigerator.
I agree, there needs to be a stencil. When I made mine I didn't make it long enough to cover the clothes pin. I had to start all over. I really do like this idea, it's very afordable.

These are very cute. and I would love to make a bunch for a miniature mitten tree. I have two antique versions of these that are slightly smaller. I'm not sure how old they are but older than I am, and possibly older than my mother....she remembers them from when she was a child. (I'm 50!)

How about using velcro. Then if you are putting them up with a magnet on the fridge you could change the ornament for the season or occasion.
Mother made these 30 years ago, with felt and glued to hair clips. still have one around someplace, however the felt is starting to fall off. Glad to see this one and will definately give it a try. Thanks Martha
Hot glue is not stable enough for use this way. The thick, white, tacky craft glue has better holding power.
is anyone having a problem with the paperclips falling off of the cardboard and magnet?! i made several a couple of weeks ago..and hot glued them on. every one of them have fallen off!

I'm thinking about using scrapbooking paper glued onto cardstock. This might make it faster. Loved the idea of using it as garland for cards.
Fill a clear or printed cello bag that you'd filll with candy or cookies for giving and then twist the top and place the mitten clip as the "twist tie". They look adorable and they get two gifts - one to eat and one to remember.

I made the cardboard cut-outs from one sided shiny silver cardboard and glued the felt onto that. People loved that concept, I gave them to family members and also clipped the mittens onto the bags of goodies I sold at a holiday Bake sale! They made the baked goods packaging a bit more special!

These would work great if you strung them on garland and attach your christmas cards to them for everyone to view.
You can get magnetic strips with adhesive backing. And I haven't tried hot glue, but that would probably work well.
I made these for my gift baskets this year and they were quite cute, but I had a really hard time getting glue to attach to those long strips of magnets. They just pealed right off. Any suggestions for next year?
