Project

No-Stitch Cross-Stitch

Created By: **researcher: Andrea Cowsert**

Introduction

You don't need to spend hours to re-create the designs of early American samplers. We used a paint pen to "stitch" designs onto glass, imprinting leafy motifs on large candleholders for a centerpiece and monograms on votive holders for favors.

Materials

Steps

  1. Step 1

Download the Cross-Stitch Alphabet Template and the Cross-Stitch Patterns Template. Print.

  2. Step 2

Enlarge template to desired size on a photocopier; cut out.

  3. Step 3

Position template inside vessel using tape. With an extra-fine-tip paint pen, trace pattern onto glass. (If you make a mistake, wipe with a damp paper towel while paint is wet.)

  4. Step 4

To repeat pattern around glass, shift the template inside vessel, and trace again. Let dry.

This idea is excellent, I can't wait to use this idea for other cross stitch patterns as well. I'll have cross stitch santas on all the glassware for Christmas. And cross stitch pumkins on candle holders for Halloween. Oh, my mind is spinning now.

Oh, these would also be great on the Martha storage jars found in the scrapbook aisle at Michael's. Would make a great Christmas gift for my stitching friends.
