A little more white for Christmas: These stockings make delightful use of handkerchiefs with fitting monograms or attractive decorations. We used Swiss-dot cotton and handkerchief-linen fabric for the bodies.

Handkerchief Stocking How-To
1. Using the template, cut out two stocking shapes, pin them together, right sides facing, and machine-stitch along the edges, allowing a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

2. Turn the fabric right-side out, and pin the bottom of a handkerchief, right side facing in, inside the top of the stocking, so only a little of the edge of handkerchief is exposed. Machine-stitch the handkerchiefs in place all around top of stocking as if sewing a sleeve. Pull the handkerchief out from the stocking, and drape it over the right sides of the fabric.

what size do you increase to make the stocking and what is the best way to trace the actual sized stocking?
