Mantel Nailing Board

Evergreen garlands and Christmas stockings belong over the fireplace, but arranging them on the mantel can damage the surface.

  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of 3/4-inch plywood to the length and width of the mantel.

Thank you so much for this great idea. Just moved in a townhome that has a recessed niche for the TV over the gas log fireplace leaving no room to hang the stockings. This will allow me a place to hang the stockings, remove when the fire is going and still have a holiday-looking "mantle". Only concern will be the heat coming up from the logs, even if I use artificial garland. Do you think it will be safe? Still a great idea!
