Plant Swatch

Martha Stewart Living, May 2010

The next time you make a trip to the nursery to fill a gap in your garden, take along a bundle of clippings from the surrounding bed (bind the stems with a piece of twine). Having samples of your plants will help you choose new flora that fits right in.

Thanks for the idea of a digital photo.

Uau, ladies, you sure are serious gardners, aren`t you?

I think the digital photo idea makes much more sense. Besides, I don't know about you but that trip to the nursery is a long one that would just be a dark wilted wad by the time I got there.

Wouldn't a couple digital photos (printed or on your camera phone) make more sense

Better put your "swatch" in a ziploc bag. No nursery is going to want you bringing possible pests and diseases from your home garden to their premises.

This has been such a problem for me. And this "tip" makes a lot of sense! Definitely will do this next time I'm trying to coordinate to make plant colors zing!
