Making a Hanging Sachet How-To
1. Fold one short end of the fabric in by 1/4 inch; press. Fold over once more; press. Topstitch. Repeat for the other short end.
2. Fold fabric in half lengthwise, with the wrong sides facing out. Sew sides together using a 1/4-inch seam allowance; sew along the cut side edges with a zigzag stitch to prevent fraying. Turn right side out. Poke out the corners with a bone folder or chopstick.
3. For the ties, cut six 10-inch lengths of linen tape; on one end of each tie, tuck under 1/4 inch and press. Sew two ties (at the folded end) to the inside corners of the open end and one tie to the top middle of the back of the pouch. Sew the remaining three ties to the front of the pouch, 3 inches up from the bottom, spaced to correspond with the first three ties.
4. Tuck a few cedar blocks or muslin pouches filled with lavender into the pouch.
5. Fold the sachet in half over the bar of the hanger, and tie in place.

I love this idea!! I found some great wooden hangers on a website called onlyhangers.com
They worked great for this craft and they cost less on this site then you can buy in the stores. Here is the one I used.
Good luck!!

Where con I find the beautiful hangers shown on the page with the bags of lavender? Thank you
Again, the directions are incomprehensible. It seems that Martha could hire someone who has read sewing directions before and knows how to write them. Which "sides" get sewn (there are 4 sides to choose from). How is a "pouch" formed? These directions aren't clear.
I made these hanging sachets for Mother's Day gifts. I used lavender fabric rather than cream. I sewed three pockets and inserted cedar blocks into two and made a sachet for the third pocket which I filled with lavender buds. They turned out lovely and smelled wonderful!!!!
