If you've ever wished for an easier way to decorate an egg -- or a small pumpkin, ornament, or golf ball, for that matter -- this invention's for you.

The Eggbot is an art robot that can draw on spherical or egg-shaped objects. Using simple drawing software and a motor that breaks up motion into discrete steps, the machine allows artists to draw on all kinds of things that are normally impossible to print on.

"The original design was motivated by simplicity: drawing on a round object does not require any complicated mechanics," says Eggbot inventor Bruce Shapiro. "My hope is that Eggbot will not only be used for decoration but also as an introductory experience for people wanting to experiment with robotics."

Bruce showcased the Eggbot at New York's Maker Faire in September.
