Martha Stewart at Home: Appliance Manual for Guests

At Home with Technology, Special Issue 2001

House sitters and child-care providers may be baffled by the nuances of your stereo, climate-control, and burglar-alarm systems. Provide them with a handy guide to using your keypads and remote controls: Type or write instructions, and collect them in a convenient book like the ring binder shown here. Mark sections with tabs for each piece of equipment. The label can be photocopied or scanned for the cover.

Actually, you can go to the Craft section and click on Templates. It is available to copy and print.

I think that the comment about the photocopied label is referring to the piece of equipment. so if you have the owners manual or box you can photocopy that and put it on the cover..??

Should there be a link to the label mentioned? I'm not finding one.

I am a Pet Sitter and insist on this information before they leave. My consultations form covers all of this, plus some . One important thing (to me) is to obtain the name of a LOCAL emergency contact. Also, it is a good thing to ask if their lights are set on timers...can be scary if you don't know in advance. And one last IMPORTANT thing....while you are there WITH the owners....make sure the "key they just had made for you works properly!!!

How about a list for cleaning each room The laundry, the water softener, the furnace (changing filers and cleaning) the thermostates (heating and cooling guides). the kitchen duties are taped inside my cabinet above the sink - this is a great help with kids doing cleanup, and I typed up chores for cleaning each room and they are taped inside the closet doors. Then there are no quesitons from anyone. It includes what equipment and cleaning products are used and where they are.

This is a good idea. I think the same principle could apply to pet and plant care, a little manual that shows house sitters etc what and how often to feed pets.
