To bring a child's drawing to life, pin the cut-out drawing, facedown, to two pieces of fabric. Trace with a fabric pencil, leaving about 1/4 inch all around. Cut out. Sew on button eyes. Pin fabric again, right sides facing. Sew together, leaving an opening for batting. Stuff with batting, and then sew closed. Sew on other features, such as ears, limbs, and embellishments.

If you like this idea but don't have the time: I sew little creatures inspired by children's drawings – and I'm looking for new projects now!
The first creature creations were based on drawings from my childhood when I was between two and six years old. In the last couple years I had the opportunity to make several custom orders: These can be viewed on my website:

I love this idea as well and will a penquin as my grandson loves the penquin movie. I am looking for a Garfield pattern please, either knit, crochet or sewing.
Thanks so much
i want to try this project. but can you use it on a sewing machine?
I love these simple sew animals, which inspired this:

This is the coolest idea....love this one!
I think this idea is adorable too but more extensive directions for the inexperienced sewer would be good. For instance, how would you add limbs or use more than one type of fabric?
I love this Idea... ;O)
I like this idea. Going to pull out some artwork from of my 2 sons. Athough, they are out of high school I'll still enjoy it! Kate
I think I like this idea for kids artwork even better than the "Sketchy Pals" idea. Substituting fabric scraps for markers and pens really gives your kids more freedom to express themselves artistically by letting them play around with color and texture. Great article and great idea!
