Cutting Boards

Everyday Food, Volume 1 January/February 2003

Here's an easy, all-natural way to freshen wooden work surfaces with household ingredients.

Equipment
You'll need a big handful of salt, which can be coarse or fine, and one lemon, cut in half.

Directions
Sprinkle surface with salt, and scrub it with the cut side of a lemon half. Repeat if necessary

Alternative
You can use salt with vinegar and a plastic scrubber, but the smell of lemon is nicer.

Why It Works
The salt is an abrasive that scours the wood, and the lemon dissolves grease.
