Souvenirs and photos of family trips and vacations are usually put away for safekeeping or placed in an album, but creating a memory board is one way to display them prominently. Martha constructs a memory board made from a map and piece of fabric-covered fiber board. Once it's finished, Martha pins small flags at the locations she's visited, as well as an assortment of photographs, ticket stubs, and other memorabilia around the edges of the map.
Tools and Materials
Map of the United States, Europe, or other area to which you have traveled
Thin poster board
Spray adhesive
Fiber board, such as Homasote (available at hardware stores), cut 5 1/2 inches larger all around than the map
Fabric
Staple gun
Decorative pushpins or furniture tacks
Eye hooks
Hanging wire
Map Memory Board How-To
1. Mount the map onto the poster board, using the spray adhesive. Cover the fiber board with fabric, and attach it in place with the staple gun.
2. Pin the map in the center of the fabric-covered board with pushpins or furniture tacks. Attach the eye hooks and hanging wire to the reverse side of the board.

This an easy and educational tool for kids. My wife did a version of this with a large map in our garage. We encourage our kids to pick new vacation spots each time to somewhere different than we have already been. Oh by the way did I mention my oldest daughter last year won the Geography Bee in 7th Grade. Wonder if the map and searching for new places to go had anything to do with it? Keep having fun!

SisterSnow - check with a lumber yard in your area. I have a lumber yard in Dallas, Texas and we have carried Homosote for years. It is very easy to work with.
When I go to Home Depot and ask for Homasote they have no idea what it is. Is it a thing they only have in the Eastern U.S.?
This is a great idea for a child's bedroom or playroom. It serves as a memento of past trips and teaches geography skills too! Great idea!
I am a memeber of postcrossing.com. This will be a fabulous way of tracking where I have sent and received post cards through out the world. The post cards I've received will decorate the edges of the world map. I can hardly wait to get started!
I LOVE this idea! Great way to keep those memories alive! Easy to update, too, if necessary. Wish my kids were still young...I would have done one for each of their rooms.
what happened to the old craft style where you included resource links to purchase the items to complete these projects?
