Project

Matzo House

This matzo house makes a wonderful addition to any Seder table.

Materials

  • 6-by-6-by-6-inch cube cardboard box
  • Scissors or utility knife
  • Tape
  • Matzo
  • Melted chocolate
  • Kosher foods (for decoration)

Steps

  1. Step 1

Begin by folding the cardboard box into the form of a house: Trim 2 of the top flaps into triangles and tape the 2 uncut flaps onto it along the cut angles to create a support for the pitched roof.

  2. Step 2

Squeeze melted chocolate onto form.Tip: Keep melted chocolate liquefied by resting a container of it in warm water.

  3. Step 3

Attach pieces of matzo to chocolate-covered house form.

  4. Step 4

Decorate the matzo house with kosher food items of your choice, using the melted chocolate to attach the decorations to the house.

Passover 20013--Martha, thanks for you inspiration! I put together a matzo house using kosher products and a royal icing recipe and wisked the icing in a copper bowl. The icing smoothed out all of the problems with the matzo and the results were absolutely fantastic.

Hi Martha! I have just discovered an easier way to manage the building of the Matzah house. Use a royal frosting icing recipe and beat the egg whites with sugar, and pinch of salt in a copper bowl. My house went up easily and I was able to get blue foil, a 6 inch cardboard box, and a frilly lace edging at my local cake decorating store. The Matzah house was the talk of the seder! Thank-you for this fabulous and challenging inspiration.

I am going to echo the comments below! I am planning my seder already - in February, and templates and pictures would be nice. I have ages from 5 to 85 and this craft would be fun for all.

Would love to have a template for Passover 2009. It would look beautiful as a centerpiece on my table or dessert table.

I was shocked to not find a photo or template here too! Would the info on the "Winter Village" be something we could use for this, or when should we check back again, to find the template for this? Thank you, Mrs. Karen M. Wallis - Oceanside, CA.
