  3. Cutting Woven Fabrics

    Hide

Use this tailor's trick whenever you need to cut a straight line through a woven fabric such as cotton or linen. Tease several threads loose at the point where you'll make the initial cut. Then gently pull out the threads to create a trail of perfectly aligned holes in the fabric, which can then guide your shears.

  4. Floral-Cutout Wrap and Cards

    Hide

Add a new dimension to gift wrap and cards with these floral cutouts. Download the template and cut it out. Using a pencil, trace the template onto the desired surface. Carefully cut along traced lines with a craft knife, leaving gaps between petals. For gifts, wrap item with paper in a contrasting color before covering with cutout layer. For cards, attach a cutout card to a second card in a contrasting color using double-sided tape.

  5. Creepy Candles

    Hide

Cast a sinister glow over any setting with a cluster of white tapers dripping with "blood" (actually red candle wax). Fill a cup or a small pail with sand, and plant white candles inside so they stand upright. Light a red candle and tip it over the white candles so the wax drips down the tops and sides, being careful not to burn yourself. Let wax cool completely before removing candles from sand.
