Advent in a Box

For a twist on a classic Advent calendar, think inside the box. Use vinyl number stickers, from 1 to 24, to label lids of colorful gift and jewelry boxes culled from Christmases past. Hang with removable poster putty. Then fill each box with a toy or treat.

I found some boxes at the dollar store...some of them only 2 for $1.....I just coordinated colors and walla! My kids love this advent calendar. I also found 25 coordinating scripture verses to go with and we read one a night when we light our advent wreath and open our box. It's a great way to get into the true meaning of Christmas!

This is very stylish and appealing, but I don't know how many people just happen to have 25 colorful gift and jewelry boxes laying around! I guess maybe they painted them, or covered them with paper. I think it would end up pretty costly by the time you found all the boxes and putty and 2 different colors of stick-on letters and paper or paint. AND the gifts or candy to go inside of them! If you do make it, I would suggest affixing boxes to a backer board...stores better.
