These cozy wax vignettes make delightful holiday displays or gifts.

For any of these projects, you need only master a few basic techniques. Find 8 1/2-by-16 3/4-inch sheets of beeswax -- and many of the other materials -- at crafts stores. Store leftover sheets and your creations in a cool, dry place.

These cozy wax vignettes make delightful holiday displays or gifts. To create one, cut 3 circular pieces out of natural-color wax with a 3-inch biscuit cutter; cut a fourth piece out of white wax to make snow. Use a utility knife to cut a path through snow. Place white layer on top of the others, and press together. Apply low heat from a hair dryer; press together again. Make a candle house and tree and snowman cutouts. Add details such as a window and door by cutting them out of excess wax with a utility knife and adhering, as above. To attach figures to base, apply candle glue and hold in place for several minutes; let dry for 30 minutes. Apply candle adhesive to underside of base and place on a small plate or in an acrylic gift box.
