Project

Tinsel Snowflake

Tinsel isn't just for sprinkling on an evergreen tree. Try creating our sparkling ornaments to brighten any room.

Materials

  • Snowflake templates
  • Tape
  • Mat board or smooth cardboard
  • Craft glue
  • Glitter
  • Removable adhesive hooks
  • Paint Brush
  • Utility Knife

Steps

  1. Step 1

Enlarge templates as desired using a photocopier (5 to 12 inches in diameter).

  2. Step 2

Tape to a piece of heavy mat board or smooth cardboard; place over a protective surface, such as a self-healing mat.

  3. Step 3

Using a utility knife, cut through layers to create snowflake shape. Remove template. Using a medium paintbrush, coat one side of shape with craft glue. Sprinkle with fine glitter. Let glue dry; shake off excess glitter.

  4. Step 4

Repeat, using glass-shard glitter. Repeat process on other side. Using silver thread, hang snowflakes from removable adhesive hooks.

Where do you get the glass-shard glitter?

  • hausmouse 16 Nov, 2011

The glass shard glitter lends a really nice, authentically vintage holiday vibe--http://www.vintage-ornaments.com/craft-supplies/german-glass-glitter
You could even use different color glitter bands radiating out from the center, then dust the top edges of the snowflake with a bit of frost white glitter for a snow-sparkle effect.

If you click on "template" in instruction #1, a pdf file should open. I just opened it and saved to my computer for later use.

Has anyone tried just printing the snowflakes onto cardstock, instead of onto paper then tracing on cardboard?

Does anyone know what colors were used in this project? I lost my magazine and can not find the colors used. Help please.

How do you enlarge the size of the snowflake

Above the video is the print button; click on that and wait (1 -2 minutes) then a popup window will bring up the template. Hope that helps.
