Introduction

Begin by making a Basic Crepe Paper Cap that's 10 inches tall.

materials

  • Rose petals

  • Sewing kit

  • Basic Crepe Paper Cap

  • Green-thread-covered wire

  • Glue

  • Floral tape

steps

  1. Cut individual petals in a teardrop shape with a flat tip; we used five 4 1/2-by-9-inch petals; the grain runs along their length.

  2. Overlap them slightly, sew together with a running stitch, and gather tightly.

  3. Place on top of the basic cap, cinch petals and cap's stem together, and floral-tape to secure. For the jagged green sepals, cut a 9-inch-tall strip as wide as the piece you used for the basic cap.

  4. Fold into pleats about 1 1/2 inches wide; cut one end into a deep V, as shown. Unfold, and cut into irregular spikes. Wrap around the cap's stem, cinch, and floral-tape in place.

  5. Cut out leaf shapes. Dab the leaf backs with a glue stick, and lay a piece of green-thread-covered wire onto the glue (or use regular wire with green floral tape); twist wires together if you want several leaves on one stem.

  6. Use floral tape to join leaves to the cap's stem. Stretch centers of rose petals to curl them.
