Martha Stewart Living, January 2009

Linen-wrapped Homasote fiberboard panels are mounted to the front of each closet door. A similar panel also rests on the back wall of a bureau-height shelf. They can serve as bulletin boards for notes, dry-cleaning receipts, and mementos.

Curiously, the Homasote company web site has a link to more detailed instructions for this project, though the MSL page here does not.

Here's the link to home hobbyist info on the Homasote maker's web site:

By the way, the generic name for the product seems to be "fiberboard," if I'm correctly reading between the lines.

Try this page on the manufacturer's web site to find a retail source of Homasote:

My Homes Depot carries a similar product called Sound Choice. It is intended for sound proofing.

I live in CA and as long as I can recall, Martha has suggested using this product. It is something that is not readily available ( do a google search, find the Co. website and then search based on your area). Most stores do not even stock it but say they can special order. I sure wish that her supply list would include a comparable product that is easier to find.

No one at my local home improvement stores recognizes the term "Homasote". Can anyone explain? I thought of using a purchased bulletin-board, but did not want to work with taking of the frame, etc. Thanks!

It would have been interesting to have a better picture of the final results.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

I mounted the purchased cork board with frame using the hardware it came with. The cork board squares I used finishing nails then covered the nails with antiqued brads and hot glue. Seriously I think I come up with ideas just from the hot glue gun. LOVE IT!!

I bought a cork board for this (24x36in at Michael 40% coupon). The cork board frame came off easily. I cover the cork with a beautiful fabric remnant and put the frame back on. I mounted it in my laundry area for reminders, stray socks and everything else I find in my families pockets. I also bought cork squares (10x10in) from Home Depot. Covered them and mounted them behind my husbands desk. He loves having the vertical space for notes. I love it cause it puts some color in his office

I finally found Homasote at a local independent buidling supply store. It came in a large sheet (4x6 maybe) and they cut it to size(s) for me. The Home Depots, Lowes and Menards in my area no longer carry it.

Nice. I never would have thought to put this in a closet, but I open up my closet every morning. It's the first thing I see! Great idea. All you've got to do is wrap a board and mount it. No instructions needed.

Great, unless you are real paticular/organized, there will another place to look just the fridge in the kitchen with all of its notes/pictures/receipts, etc. Would be a good idea in a home office.
