Plaster Dinosaur

Introduction

These decorative and fun dinosaurs are simple to make and sure to brighten up your child's walls.

Materials

  • Plaster of Paris
  • Paint-mixing stick or drill with mixer attachment
  • Cold water
  • Tray of sand
  • Dinosaur mold
  • Picture-hanging wire
  • Sandpaper
  • Rust-Oleum Universal spray paint

Steps

  1. Step 1

Mix plaster using a drill with a mixer attachment, or by hand with a paint stick: 2 parts plaster to 1 part cold water.

  2. Step 2

Select desired mold for your child's room; we used a dinosaur mold. To ensure that the plaster sets evenly, place mold in a tray of sand. Pour plaster into mold.

  3. Step 3

Place picture-hanging wire, curved to create a hanging loop, in the wet plaster. Let dry for a few hours.

  4. Step 4

Pop the plaster dinosaur out of mold. Using sandpaper, sand off edges around dinosaur.

  5. Step 5

Spray-paint plaster dinosaur with Rust-Oleum Universal in the color of your choice (we used red).

I ordered molds from spirit crafts after reading this article. While the selection is good, three weeks later my order still has not shipped and they are no longer replying to my emails. I bet they didn't do this to Martha! Try Yaley.com - they are cheaper and while their entire selection isnt available online, you can request a free catalog with your order.

This is an adorable decorating craft. I checked out their website and there are so many nifty plaster molds available through spiritcrafts. I am really eyeing up the nursery rhyme themes. Most molds are less than $5 and plaster of paris is cheep so this is a great craft I can do with the kids. I can't wait to give it a try!
