How-To

Punched Snowflake and Tree Gift Wrap and Tags

Martha Stewart Living, December 2009

Paper punches are known for cutting pretty dots. But the craft tools come in many forms, offering an effortless way to create snowflakes, stars, icicles, and more with a quick press. The shapes can be cut in multiples and used atop gifts in innovative ways.

Here, snowflakes big and small are punched from pearl-finished paper. Some are glued onto tags and cards; others are threaded -- along with sequins and Stars of David -- with a large-eyed needle onto mohair yarn. Nothing is wasted: Flurries produced by the snowflake edge punch are used as decorative accents. Tiny popup villages and trees, also made with craft punches, add a new dimension to presents and cards.
