It may be too soon for boughs of holly, but now is just the moment for a crisp-as-fall wreath made with artfully layered dried cornhusks. We hung ours over an antique mirror using golden satin ribbon, secured at the top with tacks Small gourds, interspersed with candles and berries, complete the display.
Harvest Wreath How-To
You'll need four to five 8-ounce bags of dried cornhusks to cover an 18-inch straw wreath form. (Husks are inexpensive and available at crafts stores and Mexican food shops.) Soak husks in water until pliable, about 10 minutes, and tear into 2-inch-wide strips. Bend 1 strip in half, and attach to wreath form with a U pin. Working from the inside of the wreath form outward, create rows of 4 or 5 strips. Circle the wreath form as you go, overlapping rows so pinned edges stay hidden.

It took me longer than an hour and 175 U pins but the finished product is beautiful. What an inexpensive way to dress up your home for fall!
This is even nicer when you use Indian corn with the different colors
I made mine with paper twine. It has similar texture to corn husks.
What timming ! ! ! ! ! They just harvested the corn in my field so I had TONS of corn husks WOO HOO THANKS for the great idea. I may also make a reindeer as well YAY!
I have made these a little more colorful by using RIT dye. Prepare the dye on the stove and let them steep. Rinse them well and Keep them Damp. They are more pliable when they are damp.
I can't wait to do this one. It will be perfect in my new (old) home. The robbon and the simple drape it so simple and beautiful. thanks
Luv it...nice and simple! Although some autumn colored leaves at the top, near the bow would look nice, too!
I made 5 of these many years ago for all my sisters. They were made on styrofoam rings and I used hot glue. We all have kept them over the years and change the decoration/ribbons etc each season. They clean up really easy with a sink sprayer. Great gift idea with some extra seasonal decoration.
Will it keep from year to year, or is this an annual project?
Just made one as a sample for a craft group I am in... VERY easy to make, true... but I found you don't even need one bag of corn husks to cover the wreath... I have TONS left over, which is fine for me since I can use them in the class that I will teach. Just a suggestion... Also, I found you will need about 100-150 u-hooks. I am VERY happy with the finished product though, and it took me less than an hour!
cont'd., I made some last year as Christmas wreaths by adding decorations
Making the wreath is easy. The work is in the prep; soaking
This wreath is sooooooo easy to make!! The 'ingredients' are simple to find and very inexpensive, so try it!
