Introduction

Although they originated in Renaissance Italy, confetti-filled eggs have long been a popular part of Mexican Easter celebrations. There, the eggs are traditionally broken over the head of a friend, who makes a wish upon their impact. But whether you choose to shatter them over someone's head or to display them in a decorative holiday basket, these colorful eggs are sure to be a memorable addition to this year's festivities.

Materials

  • Scissors
  • Eggs
  • Easter-egg dye
  • Sheet of paper, for funnel
  • Colored tissue paper or confetti
  • Glue stick

Steps

  1. Step 1 of 3

Using the points of a pair of scissors, crack a small hole at the larger end of an egg. Let the egg drain, carefully rinse its interior, and allow it to dry. Use dye to color the eggshell; allow to dry thoroughly.

  2. Step 2 of 3

Fashion a funnel from a piece of paper, and fill the egg about halfway with ready-made confetti or with your own homemade version (simply cut up several sheets of tissue paper into tiny squares).

  3. Step 3 of 3

Cut a piece of tissue paper slightly larger in size than the egg's hole. Run the glue stick around the edges of the hole and over one side of the paper; seal the hole by pressing the paper firmly over the opening.
