Safe and Warm

Martha Stewart Living, January 2009

Wool scarves and mittens are ready to wear from one season to the next when wrapped in acid-free tissue paper and slipped into labeled craft boxes (available at organizing stores). The boxes are then stowed inside shallow drawers.

I have purchased acid-free tissue paper at an Art Supply store. A BIG reminder, wash the items before storing them, it will provide any surprises when they are taken out of storage!

Where do I buy acid free tissue paper?

Cedar spray is available in the closet section of Wal-Mart. I bought some for pot pourri because I love the smell. I have tried sanding the cedar hearts and have not had any success with renewing the scent. The spray is fantastic.....a 4 oz. bottle was around $6.

Herbal products like Moth Away are good alternatives, along with scented cedar products ( renew the cedar scents with a sand paper rub or spraying with cedar oils). Also NO Moth brand products...Insects dislike these smells and stay away.
Look for products like these @ the container store, local hardware stores and probably superstores like Meiir, Target or Walmart.

what about moths? how do you keep them out of the wool clothes without using those obnoxious moth balls?

I would think the tissue would keep the dust out

Acid free tissue, as well as all types of acid free boxes and storage are available at The Container Store and at www.containerstore.com.

Is there a reason for the tissue? Can they not be stored in the boxes alone?
