The kindergarteners just made these and loved it! We started by having glue dots on the felt (already cut out) for the nose and googly eyes. We also had glue strips on the candy cane for easy assembly. Sparkly red poms for the noses and gold pipe cleaners for the antlers. Adorable!

Try to right-click on the template link and tell it to "Save Target As" and save it to your hard drive. Then print it from there. I have to do that every now and then with some pdf files. Plus, then you'll have it for later without having to search it out again.

I tried 4 times to download the template. I do have Adobe on the computer. What am I doing wrong?

I made up these little fellows but I added a red bow with a gold bell and I glued the bow and bell between the ears. So cute. You could do a blue bow for a boy and a pink bow for girls. I mainly used red or burgandy but I did do the blue and pink bows for my grandchildren.

I made these last night with my 8 and 3 yr old kids. They got a bit frustrated that the stuff kept falling off the faces and I didn't want them burning themselves with hot glue. So we decided it worked better to add all face parts while they layed flat. Once dry, we added the faces to the candy canes. Also, red pom-poms are hard to find in stock right now, so we substituted small jingle bells for the noses.

I loved this craft, however I was unable to find the rustic floral wire for the antlers so I used tan coloured pipe cleaners instead and loved the result. This is a perfect craft for children and since my daughter teaches grade 2 -3 I intend to help her do this with her class.

I have been trying for days to download the template and have been unsuccessful. Any suggestions?

Just read the directions for your deer more carefully. I have always used pipe cleaners. If you use 2 different colors (ex: gold brown), you can twist them tightly to add depth. Each deer needs 1 (or 2 twisted) pipe cleaner; cut it in half, then cut 1 half in half again. You attach the long piece about the cane and then u-shape the 2 other pieces and attach them at ends of the long piece.

I've been making candy-cane reindeer for years, but a bit differently. I just (tacky) glue jiggly eyes and a pom-pom nose directly on the candy cane, then add a ribbon bow with bell(s) about on neck about 1" down from nose, and then attach reindeer antlers at top crook of candy cane.
But this pattern will help me add variety to the herd. (I always take them in to work and post an "Adopt a Deer" sign to find them good home.)
