How-To

Chef's Apron

Martha Stewart Living, December 2006

1. Using our apron and pocket templates, cut an apron form and 2 pockets. Finish top edge of pockets with 1-inch double hem.

2. Fold in remaining 3 edges 1/4 inch each; press in place.

3. Finish all but bottom edge of apron with a 1/4-inch double seam. Finish bottom with a 1-inch double seam.

4. Center pockets on apron using template as a guide. Pin to secure. Sew pockets to apron 1/8 inch from pockets' folded edges.

5. Add 2 long waist straps, using the neck-strap method in the gardener's apron how-to (each will start as a 2 1/2-by-34-inch strip).

@acalnan - i was confused at first too, but found that if you print out all 13 pages of the template and put them together you can see it's full size.
@coltrane - i measured the put-together template and it's 17"x51" and you need to cut one on fold, so 34"x51" for the body of the apron, plus enough for the waist straps and the pockets. it would depend on the width of the fabric you buy.

How much should the template be enlarged?

How many yards of material does this apron require?
