Good Thing

Tissue Cases

Martha Stewart Baby, 2002

Perfect as a favor for guests who are busy wiping runny noses when not attending showers. These felt cases hold travel packs and can be attached to a stroller or car seat with double-sided mounting tabs. To make one, cut a 6 3/4-by-5 7/8-inch rectangle from felt, fold short ends in to meet at center, and pin. Sew sides shut with a 1/2-inch seam allowance, and trim with scallop or pinking shears; adhere mounting tab to back side.

Solutions for the travel tissue pack that opens from the top:
-remove the stack from the plastic and add it to the holder (as one reader suggested earlier)
-use an exacto knife and carefully make a cut down the length of the tissue pack and place it into the holder

I recently bought a similiar tissue holder at the Etsy Fair in NY, The difference though is that the top is knitted and it came with a red cross button. Super soft. If anyone wants to see a pic,LMK.

I made this for the fund raising for needy students. It is so beautiful and I used small cookie cutters to trace the design and paste on it. A great sale. The cost is so cheap and not time consuming. Easy to make. I sold them for $2. I made again next year. Thank you, Martha.

I love this! I made my first one in 10 minutes and it only cost me $.26! I can't wait to make several for stocking stuffers.

Double sided mounting tabs are Velcro. You can get at any JoAnn Store, WalMart, etc.

Altho the travel packs might have changed openings, you can just take the tissues out of the plastic and tuck them into the fabric case. Much nicer to use.

I used craft foam to do this as I find it easier to cut straight. I like the idea for adding a ribbon loop for attaching to your purse!

You can make your own wool felt by shrinking a wool fabric remnant. Buy something that's 100% wool at a thrift store

I made some of these during the holiday's as well. I made them out of cotton fabric
with lining. I have found the new travel tissues you find most in the store now have
a different opening and it is at the top short side. You could just adjust the pattern
to make the opening elsewhere. Wool felt would work the best I think because it would not stretch nor fray. Problem is, it is very expensive.

These are cute, and I had made many of them with Christmas fabrics. The unfortunate thing is that those travel packs are not to be found anymore. I tried everywhere, including online, but alas, no luck.

i was thinking how easy it would be to sew in a small loop as you're sewing the sides and attach a small carabiner hook that would allow you to clip it onto purse straps, or diaper bags, or strollers, etc. i would use some kind of satin ribbon to make the loop.

It sounds like this could be done with polar fleece, since I have a bunch of leftover fabric. I wonder if it would be too flimsy. Any thoughts?

These are very nice, but I made quite a few with Christmas fabrics, but the travel packs of tissues were not for sale anywhere that I could find.

This would be a great gift for Mom (grandmother, aunt, etc.) for Mother's Day. Teachers could let children embellish and wrap them. A simple and inexpensive, but THOUGHTFUL item to have.
