Clip-Art Craft: Cupcake Flags

Signal a special occasion by topping the dessert course with checkered "good luck" banners or sunburst "birthday" medallions. Dressed like this trio of cupcakes, your treats will pass any test of festivity with flying colors.

  • Clip art
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Party toothpicks
  • Glue stick
  • Ribbon
  • 67-pound white paper stock
  • Small beads

  1. Step 1

Reproduce templates on a color photocopier, scan them into your computer, or download them from the Web; print them with a color ink-jet printer using 67- pound white paper stock.

  2. Step 2

FOR A BANNER: Cut out one of the strips, and fold in half vertically. Apply craft glue to top third of a party toothpick, slip it into the fold so that it sticks out slightly at the top, and hold in place until dry. Adhere banner halves together with a glue stick.

  3. Step 3

FOR A MEDALLION: Cut out two circles. Place one facedown; use glue stick to affix a toothpick along circle’s diameter so that toothpick’s tip juts just be- yond circle’s edge. Attach a short length of folded ribbon at the bottom. Affix other circle faceup. Apply a dot of craft glue to the top of your flagpole; slip a small bead over the end.

So happyto see Martha providing organizational help for a garage. This has been our project for several years. We've lived in this house since 1971 and we have accumulated a wealth of items in need of organization. Thanks for your "always helpful and sensible" suggestions.
    Thankful in California. Adrienne Baker

I printed the templates and was disappointed. They didn't come out in red and there was not one for the Happy Birthday circle. I usually am very pleased with these craft ideas. My printer printed the same colors as are on the template. A red would have made a much bolder statement than the orange, in my opinion. Keep up the good work on sending these tips everyday. I do enjoy them.
