Deckle Edge

This gives paper a charming, handmade look.

  1. Step 1

Place a sheet of card stock facedown on a flat surface. Align a ruler parallel to one side, about an inch in.

  2. Step 2

Pressing firmly on the ruler, rip the edge of the paper along the length of the ruler. Repeat on the remaining three sides to create desired size.

another good tip i found online is to draw a small line with the ruler where you want the deckle edge to be, then with a thin paintbrush, "paint" the line with water. Wait just enough for the water to soak in, then rip along the line giving your paper a more frayed look rather than the straight edge a ruler will give.

You can buy deckle scissors at craft stores that do this technique quickly.
