Wooden Cheese Board

Introduction

This handmade wooden cheese board is a wonderful present that commemorates the year it was given. Originally made in 2006, we've updated the template below so you can make it for the 2007 holiday season.

Materials

  • 2007 template
  • Tape
  • Cheese board
  • Wood-burning tool with design transfer and tapered tips
  • Transfer paper (optional)
  • Ballpoint pen (optional)
  • Cheese and crackers (optional)

Steps

  1. Step 1

Choose a design, such as the 2007 template.

  2. Step 2

Download and print the 2007 template so it appears in reverse: Flip it either digitally on the computer, or on a photocopier. You can also resize your template on the photocopier.

  3. Step 3

Tape template, design-side down, onto the cheese board.

  4. Step 4

Use the wood-burning tool with design transfer tip, and slowly rub over the design. The design will transfer onto the board. (Alternatively, you can tape the template design-side up, and place transfer paper between the design and the board. Then trace the pattern with a ballpoint pen.)

  5. Step 5

Burn pattern into wood using the tapered tip. (The 2007 template will take 15 to 20 minutes to burn properly.)

  6. Step 6

Package the board with cheese and crackers.

I love this for gifts, hope Martha will have the year 2008 on a template for us.
