Silver Fir and Holly Wreath

To carry on the cheerful tradition of holly-bedecked halls, add berry accents to a circle of silver fir. Because holly dries out quickly, it's best to display this wreath outside.

  • 22-inch-diameter silver fir wreath
  • Large holly branches
  • Floral shears
  • Wired floral picks
  • Scissors
  • 2 yards 6-inch-wide red satin ribbon
  • U pins

  1. Step 1

Trim holly branches with shears to make twelve 4-inch berry sprigs. Align each sprig stem with 1 floral pick, and wrap with wire to secure.

  2. Step 2

Starting at bottom just off center of wreath, insert sprigs, continuing about 3/4 of the way up each side.

  3. Step 3

Wrap a 1-foot ribbon length around bottom of wreath. Secure at back with U pins.

  4. Step 4

Tie remaining ribbon length into a large bow. Attach to wreath with pins, inserting beneath bow to hide. Trim bow tails to desired length. To create scalloped edges, fold ends accordion-style into fourths and round end with scissors.

This wreath is lovely, especially with the ribbon and bow on the bottom. So elegant.

I'm going to try to make the greenery wreath myself so I think it's helpful to know the size and type of greenery they used. It'll help me get a result that looks more like the picture, which is what I want.

lame? when i want to do something i like to see all the steps as needed. some people need that much. others who are talented can make modifications to fit their needs and uses. all depends on the level of skill one person has. as for the 6 inch ribbon,,,check floral supply stores, craft and sewing stores and your local florist for help. they'll appreciate your business.

I agree with houseblessings. There are a number of tutorials here that are silly like that.

You know, I just didn't expect an article on "How to make a silver fir wreath" to list materials as "22 in silver fir wreath". Is it just me, or does this seem a bit lame to anyone else?
Forget trying to find the 6" satin ribbon. How about trying to find a 22" silver fir wreath?
