Family Costumes: Skyline

A family of Manhattan skyscrapers rises to new heights.

Skyscraper How-To
A four-sided rectangular frame is the starting point for both buildings.

1. Using a utility knife, cut a 24-by-8 3/4-inch piece of corrugated cardboard; score three times, evenly spaced about 6 inches apart. Fold into a box shape; secure with duct tape.

2. Download the templates; draw or trace shapes for building's front onto cardboard, and cut out. Use a hot-glue gun to attach roof and architectural features, as shown.

3. Paint cardboard light and dark gray with acrylic paint. Add details with black tape and strips of newspaper (don't forget to add tape windows on the shirt as well). To wear, punch a hole on either side of the building, just above the ears. Tie a length of elastic through the holes, adjusting to fit.

Monkey How-To
Cut four ear shapes from felt and two from fusible web. Layer these to make ears, sandwiching a 3-inch piece of floral wire into each; iron layers together. Attach ears to a knit cap with fabric glue; bend forward.
