If you find yourself with some left over yarn, this is a good project to make use of it. Even if you can't knit, you can make this craft. It's a unique and stylish bracelet decorated with wool yarn. It's simple to make and is a great gift idea.
Tools and Materials
Scissors
Clothespin
Plain plastic bangle bracelets
Yarn or ribbon
Fabric glue
Wool-Wrapped Bangles How-To
1. Create a ball of yarn slightly larger than a golf ball.
2. Densely wrap the yarn around a plastic bangle bracelet, making sure to neatly keep the yarn aligned, and pulling tightly as you go.
Tip: Work over a table or in lap in case the ball slips out of your hands.
3. Finish by overlapping a few wraps at the point where you started. Glue the strand of yarn in place along the inside of the bracelet with a fabric glue.
4. Hold the glued end of yarn in place with a clothespin and allow to dry. Once the glue has fully dried, snip off the extra yarn.
5. Bangles can be covered in thin decorative ribbon using the same process.

This craft is found under "Photograph Jewelry"
Lglucy6, et al., ...whoops.... Slice up a mailing tube. This allows you to create *bangles* of differing diameters and widths and gives you greater variability in the number and size of your items. It is inexpensive and, if you use heavy-duty cardboard tubes and natural fibres, is biodegradable. You may use decoupage medium, or acrylic spray, on the cardboard rings before you begin to wrap, but I believe this will make them a bit less biodegradable.
Don't forget to have fun! 8-*)

This would be an easy craft for a group of elders that I work with, but can anyone think of alternatives to buying actual bracelets...i.e. cutting plastic piping, soda bottles etc., that might make it cheaper to make larger quantities?

Love this idea!
2-22-09 Found huge assortment of bangles, some for $9/dozen at www.wholesalewholesale.com
I found bracelets at 3 places - candyapplecostumes.com look for glitter bracelets, deluxe 80's bracelets or hippy bracelets; newport-news.com look for chunky bracelets; and charlotterusse.com look for bangle set. The best place to find them though is at yard sales and flea markets.
In my sewing group we used grosgrain ribbons as well as yarn. Swaroski crystals can also be glued on for embellishment. We used wooden bangle bracelets instead which were ordered online. Since many of our group have granddaughters some were making the bracelets as gifts.
How chic when your bracelet matches your sweater!
cocowholesale no longer has the bangles
A great project and a great way to recycle.this would also be a good way to use that old sweater unravel the knit and use the yarn. A good place to buy the bracelets is at resale shops and garage sales. If you have sensitive Skin line the bracelet with a soft satin ribbon
Imade christmas ornaments this way too..sagegoingongreen.blogspot.com

Does anyone have a good place I can find plain plastic bangle bracelets?
You can also use this same technique for napkin rings.
Great idea for some Christmas presents
Such a great way to use up extra yarn and ribbon. I can't wait to try it.
