Materials

  • Template
  • 24-gauge gold-plated wire
  • Wire cutter
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Ruler
  • Size 17 knitting needle
  • Eight 3 mm and eight 4 mm crystal beads
  • Nine 5 mm crystal beads
  • Four 6 mm crystal beads
  • Cording or chain for necklace

Steps

  1. Step 1

Cut a 7-inch piece of wire. Fold the piece in half, and make a point at the fold with needle-nose pliers.

  2. Step 2

Measure 1 1/2 inches from the point and, using a knitting needle, wrap the wire around to make half of heart shape. Repeat the same process on the other side to end up with a double teardrop. Pull sides apart and form into a heart shape.

  3. Step 3

Start beading on one of the ends of the wire. Thread two of each size bead in the following order to create a gradation of bead sizes from the heart's center to its point:3 mm beads4 mm beads5 mm beads6 mm beads5 mm beads4 mm beads3 mm beadsRepeat process on other side of heart.

  4. Step 4

With needle-nose pliers, squeeze the wire ends together and slide a 5 mm bead over both ends. Fold ends of wire up to secure and snip off excess wire.

  5. Step 5

Thread pendant onto cording or chain.

Free boy games online are synonymous with the word trend that has not only captivated but also ruled over all components of web gaming in the world.

I had just started watching Martha Stewart in March this past year (2011) so I missed the episode that had this project. However, I was looking for something to do yesterday and fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I had suitable materials already so I sat down this afternoon and made it in just a couple of hours. It's sooo pretty and I can't wait to wear the pendant and bracelet together!

Tip: Brush nail glue on crimp bead to secure. <<< if you don't crimp properly I doubt a dab of glue will help :-)
I do love love the heart!

I would looove to know where to get the pretty ring Kristin is wearing. It's soo beautiful!

  • susanbonitahead 25 Feb, 2009

I found a website called Fusion beads at www.fusionbeads.com and they have all the sizes you could ever dream of and more. I bought my crystals there and they came right away. This place is awesome and I would recommend it to anyone.

  • Glittergirly 22 Feb, 2009

Try going online to Fire Mountain Gems and Beads. I found all the Crystal size beads there.

  • SugarPop 14 Feb, 2009

where did you guys find all the different sizes besides the website we were given? I looked everywhere and they only have certain sizes not the ones you need.

  • tahoehuskies 10 Feb, 2009

Easy project, but if you can't locate all the different sizes of crystals two or three sizes will work just fine. I found that I could shape the heart loops with just about any evenly round object such as a high-lighter.

  • madcatbeads 10 Feb, 2009

Thank you so much for the help on how to find and print out the directions and template.

  • mamanoo 9 Feb, 2009

I want to know if bluemud.com is a safe place to order from. I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I have been checking places for the crystals. There is another place called fusionbeads.com. I made the heart by shaping it myself. I found it too difficult to do it the way she was doing it.

  • deanieg 9 Feb, 2009

she made it more difficult than necessary. I have made several, just cut a 6 inch wire and string the beads. When all the beads are on, dip both ends of the wire into a drop of super glue and string the larger (final bead) with both ends of the wire. Let dry and then cut the wire as close to the bead as possible.(nothing to fold over or to rub your neck) Then form into a heart shape.... very easy takes just a couple of minutes to make

  • vickybead 9 Feb, 2009

I love this heart. I have made 6 of them already. 5mm bicones can be purchased at some bead stores or online or at www.bluemud.com They have a good variety of all the sizes. I added one more step for myself to insure that the upturned wires do not catch. I take my round nose pliers and turn the end of the very end wire down. 1/2 of the upturned wire is down. I squish the 4 wires together to make them invisible from the front. Do be careful not to flake off any of the crystal.

  • jnetti 9 Feb, 2009

This is a great project. I made three of them for gifs. Great idea. I twisted the little wires together and cut them close to the bead. I am so grateful for all your great ideas. Jnetti.

  • DerbyDays 9 Feb, 2009

loved Kristin's NAIL POLISH colour - wonder what make and colour it is!

  • jgcraftmom 7 Feb, 2009

Can anyone help with the last step of the heart pendant. Once that last bead is put on both wires, what happens to them. It seems to me that if you just bend them up, that it will snag on your clothes. HELP!

  • gal_pdx 6 Feb, 2009

For the template, click on the icon at the top that says print (next to save, rate, email). A window will come up with the materials and a link for the template.

  • NicoleWoll 6 Feb, 2009

  • madcatbeads 5 Feb, 2009

Help please Martha Stewart web person, Every time I click the link for the printed directions for the heart pendant, the screen shows the written directions for 2 seconds then the screen goes on its own right to the video for the show. The same happens when I click on the ultra suede bag directions. I realy would love to print the directions and templates, help :)

  • dba212 5 Feb, 2009

I loved the ring on Kristin's right index finger that looks like it was made with bugle beads... Did she make it and if so, are there any instructions for it available?... Thanks!!!

  • dharmagal 5 Feb, 2009

The ring the craft creator was wearing can be purchased from Swarovski web site. The cost is $110plus- it is really beautiful!!!!

  • tamarajo 4 Feb, 2009

I would like to know how to make the ring that the creator was wearing while she was making this project with Martha.

  • misbeady 4 Feb, 2009

Another source for materials is Artbeads (artbeads.com). They offer free shipping and no minimum order. A good source for all beading and jewelry supplies.

  • dharmagal 3 Feb, 2009

Some of you are looking for a video of this project. If you wait a few days, that show will be loaded into Martha's Archive section of this website. You can watch the entire show for that day or just the segment for the heart necklace project.
All of her shows are kept in the archive section.
