Flag Holder

  • Wood glue
  • Wooden furniture feet
  • Wooden lamp bases (ours were about 5 inches in diameter)
  • A drill
  • A 1/4-inch drill bit
  • A paintbrush
  • Latex paint
  • 4-by-6-inch flags attached to 1/4-inch-wide wooden staffs

  1. Step 1

Glue flat end of furniture foot to center of lamp base; dry.

  2. Step 2

Drill 6 angled holes, each 1/2 inch deep, around base and 4 more around top of furniture foot, spacing holes evenly apart.

  3. Step 3

Make one 1/2-inch-deep vertical hole at the top of the display. (If you want to display larger or smaller flags, simply use a drill bit that matches the diameter of the staff.)

  4. Step 4

Paint the wood; we chose a blue to match the table coverings.

  5. Step 5

Once the paint has dried, poke your flags securely into the drilled holes.

I really like this. It doesn't look cheap or tacky and I like the idea of a lollipop holder too maggitaffi.

I've been making these for years using cedar fencing components (post comes with bolt attached so there's NO gluing!!!),whitewashed and scuffed shabby (Home Depot fence dept).
Mine holds 13 flags and makes a fabulous centerpiece...indoors or out

There are always out of style lamp bases at most of the thrift stores or consignment stores in my town. Usually at very affordable prices. GREAT idea for patriotic holiday tables....put felt on the bottom and it could be used to hold down the stack of spare napkins!

I can see using this idea for lollipops for the grandkids for special occasions! I do childcare and it would be great for them also! Guess I'd better get to the hardware store!!!

The furniture feet are available in just about any big box store like Home Depot or Lowes. They are in the department with wood trim and similar items.

This is such a great idea and I tried to make it last year but could not find the furniture feet or lamp bases anywhere. Ideas?

These would be great to place around the stone ledge of our patio. Guess I know what I am doing tonight!

Cute idea... one at a childs place around the table - they would love it! You could also do this with left over fineals from the end of curtain rods... i know we have purchased a few rods and changed the ends..i have a few of the fineals kicking around...
