Project

Punched Floral Place Mats

A set of chic, colorful place mats will brighten up any dining table.

Materials

  • Fabric, assorted Indian cotton, from B&J Fabrics, 212-354-8150
  • Flower craft punches, by Martha Stewart Crafts
  • Fusible webbing
  • Iron
  • Linen mats

Steps

  1. Step 1

Punch petals from pink, ocher, and orange fabric. Then punch a matching set out of fusible webbing (a material that lets you bond fabrics without a needle and thread).

  2. Step 2

Iron the webbing petals to the back of fabric petals; peel off paper backing. Iron petals, webbing side down, to linen mats.

This darling project would be even easier if a two sided iron-on such as "Steam-a-Seam 2" is ironed onto the wrong side of the fabric BEFORE using the punch to cut out the petals. Might give a cleaner cut too since the fabric will be stiffened/stabilized by the Steam-a-Seam.
