To make a pencil case, cut a 2 1/2-by-18-inch rectangle of felt; fold up bottom 6 inches. To sew, use embroidery thread and a needle with a large eye. Stitch up the sides with a running stitch: Pass needle up from back to front, then reinsert needle to back; repeat making short stitches. Finish with a knot in back. Fold over flap; add a button, and snip a buttonhole. To cover a 3-by-5-inch notebook, cut an 11-by-5 1/2-inch rectangle of felt with pinking shears. Center open book on felt; fold ends over covers. Sew top and bottom edges with a running stitch. For a closure, sew a button to front and add a thread loop to back.
Felt Pencil Case
Martha Stewart Kids

Cute idea. I may halp my kindergarten granddaughter make one. fun to do together.
what a cute idea! i'm such a beginner with sewing (i'm a jewelry designer who just learned to sew a month ago!), but this seems doable....just got a sewing machine for christmas that i am dying to put to use!
why are ppl getting nasty in the comments' section??? There was an error that said tissue holder, but since I've checked again it's been fixed. You people are as sassy as Martha herself :)
You can also use felted wool sweaters. You can find great patterns
This would be easy enough for my girl's to make and they can personalize them.
it is a good idea and we can make a large one for tablespoon.
You can make a nice case for your reading "GLASSES" too!!
This looks like a quick and easy craft. I would sew the button on before sewing up the sides to make it even easier.
I don't see any errors in the instructions either. The only thing I am going to do differently is use a sewing machine and whip out about 60 of them in a Christmas felt to give to my twins 4th grade class. We bought a bunch of colored pencils before school started at the incredible price of .25 a box!

I'll bet you could do this with oil cloth too. You can usually find some cute patterns in that. You'd need a sturdy needle though.
I just love this pencil case. I made a whole stack of them for my friends who can never find a pen in their purse. They will love them I am sure and it only took me an hour. What a great little gift for adults too.
I am lucky I guess because I don't see any errors. In fact, I think I am going to make some of these with my 10-year old granddaugther. She will like them!

not sure where the error is--I've made a handful of these and filled them with nice colored pencils. That, along with a plain pad of paper makes a good children's gift.
The website if full of errors. Pictures don't match projects, materials are left out or incorrect instructions are given, measurements are wrong... these same instructions are also given somewhere else with a picture of a tissue holder...aggravating. Same thing with many of the recipes on the website :(
is there error on this page??pencil case?
