Garden Measures

Martha Stewart Living, May 2006
Here's a hands-on gardening tip. Use the length of your forearm, the distance covered by your stride, and the span of your outstretched arms in place of measuring tools when you're plotting and planting in the garden. You'll find new applications at every turn. Some annuals and bulbs, for instance, should be spaced about the distance between the thumb and pinky of an adult's hand.
