Give your flip-flops a one-of-a-kind look by decorating them with trim and embellishments.
Tools and Materials
Plain rubber flip-flops
Seam binding or ribbon
Scissors
Fabri-tac fabric glue

Embellished Flip-Flops How-To
1. Cut about a yard of seam binding, and wrap around one side of the Y-shaped flip-flop strap, starting from the back and working up to the toe. Secure seam binding at beginning and end with glue. Repeat on the other side of the Y.
2. Glue desired embellishments onto wrapped strap.
3. Repeat these steps on the second flip-flop.

While not an original idea, it really is fun to get little flowers, jewels, ribbons, buttons, trim, etc. and create your own flip flops. Hot glue is not recommended, as my flip-flops fell apart rather quickly. I am going to try gorilla glue or something... hopefully that ends up working because they really are cute.
HINT: Loosen one side of the flip flops, push ribbon through there; apply glue from the bottom. Wrap ribbon and repeat thaton other side. No glue to interferwith one'sfoot..ribbon stays put! any clear drying glue works really well..good luck!
I am so excited to try this project! I've been looking for a fun creative summer gift for friends. And I think if you added a clothes pin and decorated it up, it would make an ADORABLE place card holder for a luau pool party or summer get together.
COOKIES_24 If you put the glue on the surface that will be touching your foot when wearing the flip flop, and not on the top, you won't be needing as much ribbon
DYANIS: If you want to embellish flip flops for kids, just cut off the small figures from kids hair-ribbons and you can decorate the flip flops with winnie, minnie and all of their friends.
To make the craft cheaper, use plastic ribbon normally used for gift wrapping. It will work up a sweat, but looks like a ribbon.

I just recently started working on flip flop art, and I ran out of ribbon and decided to just glue the ribbon right on the plasic with clear flip flop glue that I bought at hobby lobby. Make sure you have plenty of ribbon to wrap around the shoe, otherwise when the glue dries the ribbon looks darker in the place where you put the glue on. fyi
These look very cute! How much ribbon do you need? I will try this soon! I think it's quite silly, I've seen plain flip-flops on sale at craft stores for a dollar, and well-done decorations on them can run the price way up, I've seen these for $50-$100!! :)
