Tuxedo Pillow

The key to easy, embellished pillows? Fabrics with built-in details. A tuxedo shirt creates an elegant cover with a ready-made closure.

Created By: Kate Mathis

  • Tuxedo shirt
  • Iron
  • Disappearing-ink pen
  • 12-inch pillow insert
  • Sewing machine and sewing supplies

  1. Step 1

    Press shirt with iron.

  2. Step 2

Using a ruler and disappearing-ink pen, mark a 13-inch square, centering it on the folds and buttons on the front of shirt. Cut out square from front and back of shirt. (If desired, cut a square from a different fabric for back of pillow.)

  3. Step 3

Place squares together, right sides facing; sew all edges with a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Clip corners. Turn cover right side out through the opening at the front, and insert pillow form; button to close.
