Subatomic Squad Sandwiches

Martha Stewart Kids, Volume 14 2004

At the distress signal, the subatomic squad springs into action!

Neutron zooms into mouths with strawberries and chocolate-hazelnut spread; Agent PB zaps hunger with peanut butter and bananas; and Li'l Raz sweet talks villains with raspberries and cream cheese.

Neutron Sandwich
4 small round rolls
1/4 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread, such as Nutella
4 strawberries, thinly sliced

Split rolls in half horizontally. Spread bottom of each with 1 tablespoon chocolate-hazelnut spread, and top with strawberry slices. Return tops of rolls. Makes 4.

Agent PB Sandwich
4 small round rolls
1/4 cup peanut butter
Honey, for drizzling
1 banana, cut into thin rounds

Split rolls in half horizontally. Spread bottom of each with 1 tablespoon peanut butter; drizzle with honey. Top with banana slices, and return tops of rolls. Makes 4.

Li'l Raz Sandwich
If your kids prefer the tangy taste of unsweetened cream cheese, don't mix in the confectioners' sugar. Simply dust the berries with a little sugar to add a touch of sweetness to these sandwiches.

4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
Confectioners' sugar
4 small round rolls
1 pint raspberries

Split rolls in half horizontally. Stir together cream cheese and 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar, or more to taste, in a small bowl. Spread bottom half of each roll with 2 tablespoons sweetened cream cheese; divide berries among sandwiches. Use a fine sieve to lightly dust berries with more sugar, and return tops of rolls. Makes 4.
